PGSD Students Shine in Percussion Music and Creative Dance Art Performance

FKIP News – The Primary School Teacher Education Program (PGSD) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) successfully held its annual art performance titled Baswara Gumita Nuswantara on July 16, 2024. The event, which took place from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the UMM campus, showcased an array of percussion music and creative dance performances.

This vibrant event featured students from the 2022 cohort of PGSD UMM. They performed a variety of percussion music, including drums and gamelan, blended with guitar and other musical instruments. The creative dances displayed were a fusion of movements and musical styles from various regions across Indonesia, creating a unique cultural experience.

 

Fostering Creativity Through Art

Belinda Dewi Regina, S.Pd., M.Pd., the course instructor for Art and Culture, emphasized the event’s objective of showcasing students' creativity in adapting traditional Indonesian music and dance.

“By independently modifying traditional music and dance, combining characteristics from different parts of Nusantara, students not only foster creativity but also create a distinct beauty of artistic expression,” Belinda stated.

Appreciating Talent and Innovation

Ima Wahyu Putri Utami, M.Pd., Head of the Elementary Education Laboratory at PGSD UMM, lauded the event's success.

Baswara Gumita Nuswantara is a tangible testament to the abilities and creativity of PGSD UMM students. This activity not only highlights their artistic talents but also hones critical and creative thinking skills that are essential in the teaching profession,” she remarked.

Ima also stressed the importance of innovation in education, expressing hope that this event inspires other students to pursue creative endeavors.

“I hope this performance motivates other students to innovate and develop their creativity in various fields. Creativity is the key to crafting better education that aligns with contemporary needs,” Ima added.

Positive Reception and Future Aspirations

The performance received an enthusiastic response from the audience, who were impressed by the students' ability to integrate various musical and dance elements from across Indonesia into a unique and captivating show.

The success of Baswara Gumita Nuswantara has reinforced the importance of providing platforms for students to express their creativity while enriching Indonesia’s artistic and cultural heritage. The PGSD program plans to continue hosting similar events annually, offering students opportunities to explore their potential and nurture their talents.
