FKIP News—On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held the Pengenalan Studi Mahasiswa Baru (Pesmaba) 2024 event at UMM Dormitory. This event served as a pivotal moment for new students to familiarize themselves with the academic environment and values that will shape them into future educators with excellence and global competitiveness.
The event was attended by faculty leaders and officials from all study programs under FKIP. In her opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Trisakti Handayani, MM, Dean of FKIP, motivated the new students to prepare themselves for increasingly complex global challenges. She emphasized that FKIP students should not only master educational sciences but also utilize digital technology wisely.
“Technology is an essential tool in future education, but it must be used judiciously to support environmental sustainability and societal well-being,” she stated.
The Dean also highlighted that the future of education is not just about teaching methods but also about integrating technology into learning processes while considering its environmental impacts. She encouraged students to think about how they could positively contribute to environmental preservation while innovating in education.
Symbolic Start of Pesmaba FKIP 2024
Following the Dean’s remarks, the Pesmaba committee chair symbolically handed over the Pesmaba attributes to the FKIP Dean, officially marking the start of the Pesmaba FKIP 2024 series of activities.
Introduction to Faculty Leadership
The next agenda was the introduction of structural leaders at FKIP, ranging from the Dean to the Heads of Study Programs. This session aimed to familiarize new students with the leaders who will be part of their academic journey at FKIP UMM.
During this session, the vision and mission of FKIP UMM were also explained in detail: to produce graduates who are not only competent in education but also possess strong integrity as educators. Students were encouraged to actively engage in the academic and non-academic activities offered by FKIP, aiming to shape holistic, creative, and innovative individuals.
Academic Regulations and Student Services
The second material presented on the first day of Pesmaba FKIP was an explanation of academic regulations and student services, delivered by Dr. Sugiarti, M.Pd., Vice Dean I. Students gained an understanding of the importance of adhering to academic rules to achieve maximum success during their studies at FKIP UMM.
This session also provided insights into FKIP’s flagship programs related to Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM), UMM PASTI, and essential services such as course registration, academic study cards, and grade reports, as well as the role of Academic Advisors in planning their academic pathways.
FKIP’s Centers of Excellence
FKIP UMM introduced its unique strengths, including the Center of Excellence (CoE) for Excellent School Management and Home Schooling, in collaboration with industries and businesses. “This collaboration is designed to prepare FKIP students not only as experts in formal education but also as professionals in addressing the growing need for alternative education in the digital era,” explained Dr. Sugiarti.
Another highlight is the Center for Policy and Educational Development Studies (PSPKP), which serves as a platform for analyzing various educational policy issues. Through PSPKP, students and faculty can engage in research and discussions focusing on relevant education policy issues, contributing meaningfully to educational advancements in Indonesia.
Holistic Development and Character Building
FKIP UMM also emphasizes the importance of character building through programs such as P2KK (Personality and Character Development Program), scouting, national defense, and national insight training. These activities are designed to equip students with essential soft skills for their future careers while fostering independence, responsibility, and patriotism.
A Step Towards Excellence
With this series of activities, Pesmaba FKIP UMM 2024 serves not only as a campus orientation but also as an initial step in shaping future educators who are ready to face challenges with wise technology use and environmental awareness. (fd)
