FKIP News—On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) hosted the second day of Pengenalan Studi Mahasiswa Baru (Pesmaba) or New Student Orientation. The event, held from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, was attended enthusiastically by all new FKIP students.

Financial Administration System and Supporting Facilities

The first session was delivered by Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Rahardjanto, M.Si., Vice Dean II of FKIP, who elaborated on the financial administration system and the various support facilities available at UMM. Prof. Abdulkadir emphasized the importance of excellent human resources and modern, resource-sharing-based facilities in supporting both academic and non-academic achievements for students.

"UMM provides infrastructure and resources designed to help students maximize their potential in both academic and non-academic areas. With high-quality human resources, including lecturers and educational staff, we strive to create a conducive learning environment for achieving excellence," said Prof. Abdulkadir.

New students were also introduced to various supporting systems at FKIP, including laboratories, libraries, sports facilities, and arts spaces. The aim was to provide a comprehensive understanding of the campus services accessible to students to enhance their learning process.

Student Development and Organizations

The second session was led by Bayu Hendro Wicaksono, Ph.D., Vice Dean III, who discussed the student development system, student organizations, and disciplinary regulations at UMM. Bayu Hendro highlighted the importance of students actively participating in various student organizations, noting that such involvement not only develops leadership skills but also expands social networks and enhances the soft skills necessary for the workplace.

"At UMM, we uphold the principle 'No day without achievement, no achievement goes unappreciated.' Every effort and dedication by students in achieving accomplishments, whether locally, nationally, or internationally, will be duly recognized. We aim to shape students who are not only academically brilliant but also excel in various other fields," said Bayu.

He encouraged students to take part in UMM's internationalization programs, such as student exchanges, double degrees, and other initiatives designed to prepare them for global competition.

Digital Literacy in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 Era

One of the most anticipated sessions was delivered by Ahmad Fauzi, S.Pd., M.Pd., who discussed the importance of digital literacy in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. Fauzi explained that digital literacy is not just about using technology but also about the ability to search, evaluate, use, disseminate, and create information wisely across various digital platforms.

"In this digital era, students are required to possess good digital literacy skills. Digital literacy not only helps in completing academic tasks but also serves as a tool to educate others and create positive change in society," Fauzi emphasized.

He highlighted key indicators of digital literacy, such as critical evaluation of information, understanding digital copyright, and maintaining ethics in social media use. According to Fauzi, strong digital literacy prevents the spread of misinformation or hoaxes while fostering a generation that is more critical and intelligent in utilizing technology.

Additional Insights

At the end of the event, new students were given additional explanations about the laboratory system, library facilities, the roles and functions of student organizations, and an introduction to Ortom (autonomous organizations) under the Muhammadiyah framework.

This Pesmaba session was designed not only as an introduction but also as a motivation for new students to excel and make the most of the facilities and guidance provided by FKIP UMM.

With its comprehensive materials, the FKIP Pesmaba succeeded in equipping new students with a solid foundation for academic success, student development, and mastery of relevant digital technology skills in the modern era. (*fd)
